2010 Winter Olympics--Vancouver, British Columbia:
A New Light Dawning

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven." Matt 5:14-16 NIV

February, 2010 marks the lighting of the torch marking the beginning of the 2010 winter Olympic games in Vancouver B.C. Over 300,000 people representing 80 nations of the world will descend on that city during that time. All eyes will be on Vancouver with satellite signals being broadcast to even the remote areas of the world. What will they see? What will occur in Vancouver during those two weeks? What spiritual implications can this time have on the athletes, their families, the City of Vancouver, Canada, and the world? What will the nations take back to their countries when they leave? How far will the winds of the Holy Spirit blow?

Grace Extended Ministries International has joined with the More Than Gold Olympic Committee to help prepare the Vancouver region in prayer and evangelistic training ahead of the Olympics. It is our hope and prayer that there will be a mighty outpouring of God’s Spirit on this region that will extend to the ends of the earth.

Currently, Grace Extended Ministries International is working with leaders in the Vancouver area to bring a large prayer and evangelism training conference into Vancouver on October 23-24. This conference will be designed to deepen, broaden, and multiply the evangelistic prayer base in the region and will offer opportunities for lay people as well as pastors to understand God’s truths in mountain moving prayer. Matt 17:20. This two day conference will offer training tracks for children, youth, and adult that will impact their prayer and faith lives for years to come. This will be the most significant conference in Vancouver leading up to the winter Olympics. Following this conference, the lighting of the torch will occur. This torch will be carried throughout Canada over the next several weeks, arriving back in Olympic Stadium just prior to the opening day’s ceremonies. At multiple stops along the way, More Than Gold will hold prayer vigils for Vancouver and beyond.

We are in the greatest spiritual battle of our time. There is only one way to combat the power of evil that is in the world today. The Bible tells us that the battles are fought in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 NIV says, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." As such, it must be fought by every believer on their knees.

With the Olympics coming to North America, the opportunities in Vancouver are immense. The question is will the church be ready? Only if we are before God in humble repentance, prayer and worship. If we are, His Spirit will move in ways we cannot begin to imagine. The opportunity of a lifetime is in front of us. It is time to seize the moment.

Are you ready? Ask God to burden your heart for the people of this world who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Ask Him to move among the nations in Vancouver. Ask Him to mobilize an army of prayer intercessors throughout the world. Pray that the light of Jesus Christ will shine bright in Vancouver.

Would you like to join a growing network of intercessors from all over the world who are praying for God to pour forth His Spirit on Vancouver?
